LE TRE CASTAGNE DELL'ETNA SRL

LE TRE CASTAGNE DELL'ETNA SRL

The ""Tre Castagne dell'Etna s.r.l."" was born in 2018 in Trecastagni, as an artisan company and having as its main objective the processing of chestnuts, a fruit used in the past decades as a source of economic sustenance for our country. The main points that enclose the company are: 1) use of raw material from our territory; 2) Preservatives and dyes are not used; 3) use of a low percentage of sugars and a high percentage of fruit for jams and jams; 4) aim for innovation; 5) satisfy customers also with third parties; The love for our work and for our territory leads us to work with professionalism and dedication. Our products are: jams, jams, plagues, sauces, crunchy, paté, jelly, sauce and fruit juices. In addition to the chestnut, we have also inserted other fruits such as pistachio, hazelnut and almond, also since the ash of Etna is an excellent fertilizer for our fields, it gives us the opportunity to expand our crops and then we thought well to also insert jams and jams with the typical fruit of Etna: cherries, apples, pears, figs, mulberries and so on. Our processes take place according to traditional recipes, while the processes for subsequent conservation are carried out with innovative methods, which maintain the organoleptic characteristics of the products used unchanged. The company is located in Trecastagni, a country that stands on the slopes of Etna, one of the municipalities that are at the highest quota (586 s.l.m.). The etymology of the name is uncertain, and there are several hypotheses: • Tres Castaneae, name of theFantic site in which there were three large chestnuts • Tres Casti Agni, or ""The three castles Agnelli"", with reference to the Holy Martyrs Alfio, Cirino e Philadelphus, the country's compatrons, who stopped on site during their transfer from Vaste to Lentini, a place of martyrdom; • Castra Tria, difficult to interpret, but which presumably reference to three war camps. Trecastagni has about 11,000 inhabitants called Trecastagnesi, being on the slopes of Etna and being one of the municipalities on the border between the continuum inhabited area of the metropolitan area of Catania and the territory of the Etna park, it is largely not built, and therefore rich of naturalistic attractions. In the territory north of Trecastagni there are three volcanic cones: in particular Mount Llice and Monte Gorna are of considerable size. The land on the external part of the Congates are grown in vineyards or other fruit trees (including chestnuts for Monte Gorna). For both mountains it is possible to climb to the top, so that you can enjoy the panorama, and descend inside the ancient craters, also once cultivated, but now abandoned. In the past the Fossa del Monte Llice, the largest, also welcomed a cableway that allowed to transport the fruits from inside the mountain to the top of the same. Outside Mount Ilice there is an ancient farm in which Giovanni Verga set the successful novel ""History of a Capinera"". Along the road that leads from Trecastagni to the country districts, at the height of Monte Gorna, there is the hermitage Sant'Emilia, a small tower with lava stone battlement. Halfway around Monte Gorna and Monte Lice, along the same road it is possible to see the common cave, a lava ravine that gives its name inside the surrounding area. A little further on there is the small chapel dedicated to the three Martyrs, owned by the Sanctuary. From here on there are numerous paths that branch off in different directions. The surrounding woods are mainly inhabited by chestnuts, oaks and holm oaks. Over a certain altitude, the woods are interrupted by the lava flows that have followed each other over time. The skiing are also crossed by various paths, some also carriagers, which allows you to reach the road that leads from Zafferana Etnea to the Sapienza refuge. In the Frastuchetto district, so called as previously occupied by pistachio trees, between Corso Europa and the ring road, there is the Bella's grove: the largest, but neglected, green area inside the inhabited center.
